Day2:Cairo - Tour

After breakfast at the hotel, you depart via private vehicle with the guide to start the tour at the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities. The museum, opened since 1902, exhibits over 120,000 objects in its 107 halls, comprising the world’s greatest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. Two grand halls contain countless artifacts and one room reserved for the golden treasures from the world-famous tomb of the boy-king Tutankhamen. After that we are head to Citadel of Saladin which was Built between 1176 and 1183. The Citadel of Saladin stands on the highest point in Cairo, Mokattam Hills, giving it a superb view over the city. Salah Al Din (Saladin) decided to build it here to protect Cairo from any invaders. On the highest point in the citadel, and therefore the highest point in Cairo, stands the Mosque of Mohamed Ali. Built between 1828 and 1848 this mosque is one of the ‘must see’ sites in the Citadel, and in the whole of Cairo. Mohamed Ali built it in memory of his second son, Yusun Pasha, who had died in 1816. From here you will be taken to the town of Mit Rahina, once known as Memphis and the capital of ancient Egypt, stopping for lunch (optional) on the way. The museum here houses many large artifacts, all situated in a wonderful garden, as well as the Colossi of Ramses II inside the museum building. At the end of this interesting day you will be driven back to your Cairo hotel. (B) In the evening optional tours:- Giza Pyramids Sound and Light Show River Nile dinner cruise River Nile felucca trip Cairo Tower dinner and city views

Day6:Kom Ombo - Aswan

Once you have had your breakfast your guide will meet you, assist in your checking out of the hotel, put your luggage into our air-conditioned vehicle, and then take you on a full day’s drive to Aswan, stopping along the way to visit two of Egypt’s most famous temples. This journey takes, on average, approximately 7-8 hours. First stop is at Edfu where you will visit the Temple of Horus, which is one of the best preserved temples in the whole country. Dedicated to the god Horus, it was built between 237BCE and 57BCE, during the Greek (Ptolemaic) Period; it actually sits on the remains of previous temples that had been built here. The reliefs on the walls tell the story of Horus taking out his revenge on Seth, for the murder of his father; Osiris, and give a fantastic insight into ancient Egyptian religion. An enormous 10 foot tall statue of Horus, the falcon god, stands at the entrance of the main temple building, and there are also a granite shrine to Nektanebo (360-342BCE) , the remains of a mamissi (birth-house), and the base of a pylon that once belonged to a Rameses II temple. The Temple of Horus is also the second largest temple in Egypt: Karnak being the largest! The second stop allows you to visit the Temple of Kom Ombo, which is very unusual as it is dedicated to two gods: Sobek and Haroeris (the Greek name for the Egyptian god 'Herwer', which translates into 'Great Horus' or 'Horus the Elder'). It is built symmetrically, with two entrances, two sanctuaries, and a clear division that separates the temple into one half Sobek and one half Haroeris. It is a Ptolemaic temple, built between the reigns of Ptolemy VI (Philometor) and Ptolemy XII (Neos Dionysos) with sandstone from the nearby Gebel El Silsila quarries. The forecourt and outer corridor were added during the Roman Period. From here you will continue on to Aswan, where your guide will assist you with your luggage and also with check in. The remainder of the day will be free to do as you wish: relax, or take one of our optional extras. (B) Optional extras: Philae Temples Sound and Light Show The Unfinished Obelisk Nubian Museum Felucca trip around Elephantine Island

Day7:Aswan - Abu Simbel

This morning you will have a very early start, which means you will be supplied with a breakfast box as you will be leaving the hotel before breakfasts are served. Around 0330-0400 your guide will meet you and escort you, in our air-conditioned vehicle, to the site of Abu Simbel. Situated approximately 285 kilometers south of Aswan, including crossing the Tropic of Cancer, these two world famous temples are absolutely amazing. Built by Ramses II in honour of himself (the ultimate egotist?) and his favorite wife, Nefertari, these rock cut temples were moved, in 1968, to escape the encroaching waters of the newly formed Lake Nasser. After your visit here you will be driven back to Aswan, stopping along the way to visit the Aswan High Dam, which created the world’s largest fresh-water lake, Lake Nasser, once it was completed. You will then be taken on a short motorboat trip to Agilkia Island, home of the Temples of Philae since their previous location was flooded due to the creation of Lake Nasser. Once the tour is completed you will be taken to Aswan Railway Station to board your evening train (not the sleeper train) back to Cairo: the journey takes, on average, about 14 hours. (B)

Day8:Aswan - Cairo/Tour

Once you have arrived at Ramses Railway Station our representative will assist you with your luggage and then transfer you, in our air-conditioned vehicle, to your hotel in Cairo. Once you have booked-in your guide will meet you and take you on the short drive back to Sakkara, but this time to see the northern side of this enormous site. Here you will get to visit the mastaba of Mereruka, the largest mastaba in Egypt and one of the most interesting. See the huge statuesque figure of Mereruka emerging from a false door; gaze in awe at the fantastic reliefs, including one that shows ancient Egyptians making wine: grapes being brought in, Egyptian trampling on them, then the wine being removed. After this phenomenal experience you will then enter the Pyramid of Teti to gaze at the pyramid texts carved on the walls. Few pyramids had any type of internal decoration, but 3 or 4 have been discovered with this type of text, which are composed of spells to aid the Pharaoh into the next life. You will then be driven to Dashur, with an optional stop for lunch en route. First of all you will get to visit the Red Pyramid, also known as the Northern Pyramid, believed to have been built by the Pharaoh Snefru. It was the world’s first “true” pyramid, meaning it was designed as a smooth sided structure, not converted from a step pyramid. Access into this pyramid is free, though it does mean negotiating a very steep interior slope: well worth it for the views inside! From here you will be taken the short distance to see Snefru’s famous “Bent Pyramid”, so named due to the change in angle that was forced upon the builders due to the pyramid being built on soft sand, which caused it to start subsiding. Finally you will be taken to the Khan El Khalili, the famous street bazaar where you can buy almost any type of souvenir you want, as well as being able to sit and drink tea, coffee, soft drinks or Turkish coffee, and even smoke a shisha (if you wish). You will also find restaurants that serve superb meals here. After this exiting day you will be driven back to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to do whatever you wish: relax, or take one of our optional extras. (X) Optional extras: Giza Pyramids Sound and Light Show River Nile dinner cruise River Nile felucca trip Cairo Tower dinner and city views
