This journey takes, on average, approximately 7-8 hours. Experience more tours of our Egypt travel packages and enjoy the impressive archeological sites. First stop is at Edfu where you will visit the Temple of Horus, which is one of the best preserved temples in the whole country. Dedicated to the god Horus, it was built between 237BCE and 57BCE, during the Greek (Ptolemaic) Period; it actually sits on the remains of previous temples that had been built here. The reliefs on the walls tell the story of Horus taking out his revenge on Seth, for the murder of his father; Osiris, and give a fantastic insight into ancient Egyptian religion. An enormous 10 foot tall statue of Horus, the falcon god, stands at the entrance of the main temple building, and there are also a granite shrine to Nektanebo (360-342BCE) , the remains of a mamissi (birth-house), and the base of a pylon that once belonged to a Rameses II temple. The Temple of Horus is also the second largest temple in Egypt. The second stop allows you to visit the Temple of Kom Ombo, which is very unusual as it is dedicated to two gods: Sobek and Haroeris (the Greek name for the Egyptian god 'Herwer', which translates into 'Great Horus' or 'Horus the Elder'). It is built symmetrically, with two entrances, two sanctuaries, and a clear division that separates the temple into one half Sobek and one half Haroeris. It is a Ptolemaic temple, built between the reigns of Ptolemy VI (Philometor) and Ptolemy XII (Neos Dionysos) with sandstone from the nearby Gebel El Silsila quarries. The forecourt and outer corridor were added during the Roman Period. From here you will continue on to Aswan, where your guide will assist you with your luggage and also with check in. The remainder of the day will be free to do as you wish: relax, or take one of our optional extras. (B) Optional extras: Philae Temples Sound and Light Show The Unfinished Obelisk Nubian Museum Felucca trip around Elephantine Island

Around 0330-0400 your guide will meet you and escort you, in our air-conditioned vehicle, to the site of Abu Simbel. Situated approximately 285 kilometres south of Aswan, including crossing the Tropic of Cancer, these two world famous temples are absolutely amazing. Built by Ramses II in honor of himself (the ultimate egotist?) and his favorite wife, Nefertari, these rock cut temples were moved, in 1968, to escape the encroaching waters of the newly formed Lake Nasser. After your visit here you will be driven back to Aswan, stopping along the way to visit the Aswan High Dam, which created the world’s largest fresh-water lake, Lake Nasser, once it was completed. You will then be taken on a short motorboat trip to Agilkia Island, home of the Temples of Philae since their previous location was flooded due to the creation of Lake Nasser. Once the tour is completed you will be taken to Aswan Railway Station to board your evening train (not the sleeper train) to Cairo: the journey takes, on average, about 14 hours. (B)
