Day3:Islamic/ Coptic Cairo

After a quick break for lunch (optional) it will be time to visit the area of Cairo dedicated to the Coptic Christians. First of you will visit the Hanging Church (also known as the Suspended Church or Al-Moallaqa). It is called the Hanging Church because it was built on the southern gate of the ruins of the Roman Fortress of Babylon. From here you will go to the Church of St. George. Tradition has it that St. George was kept in a prison close to the church and martyred there. The next stop is the Church of Abu Sarga (St. Sergius). It is the oldest church in Egypt, dating back to the 5th century CE, and it owes its fame to having been constructed over the crypt of the Holy Family where they stayed for three weeks during their escape to Egypt. Finally, you will visit the newly refurbished Coptic Museum. Originally built at the end of the 19th century CE, it now occupies an area of 8,000 square metres, which includes the buildings and garden. The Coptic Museum holds about 16,000 works of art, though only 1,200 are exhibited. It is also home to some 6,000 papyrus manuscripts, including the Psalms of David and the manuscripts of Nag Hammadi. At the end of this interesting day you will be driven back to your Cairo hotel. Day6

Once you have your breakfast, your guide will meet you for spending a wonderful day in your Coptic and Islamic Egypt tour package. You will have a full day tour of Pyramids! First of all, you will be taken to Sakkara, site of the world’s first ever pyramid: Djoser’s Step Pyramid, designed by the famous Imhotep: a genius of a man who was also one of the first ever medical practitioners and not the evil Mummy as Hollywood likes to portray. You will then be transferred to the northern side of this enormous site to visit the Mastaba of Mereruka, the largest Mastaba in Egypt and one of the most interesting. See the huge statuesque figure of Mereruka emerging from a false door; gaze in awe at the fantastic reliefs, including one that shows ancient Egyptians making wine: grapes being brought in, Egyptian trampling on them, then the wine being removed. After this phenomenal experience you will then enter the Pyramid of Teti to gaze at the pyramid texts carved on the walls. Few pyramids had any type of internal decoration, but 3 or 4 have been discovered with this type of text, which are composed of spells to aid the Pharaoh into the next life. From here you will be taken to the town of MitRahina, once known as Memphis and the capital of ancient Egypt, stopping for lunch (optional) on the way. The museum here houses many large artefacts, all situated in a wonderful garden, as well as the Colossi of Ramses II inside the museum building. You will then be driven to Dashur, with an optional stop for lunch en route. First of all, you will get to visit the Red Pyramid, also known as the Northern Pyramid, believed to have been built by the Pharaoh Snefru. It was the world’s first “true” pyramid, meaning it was designed as a smooth sided structure, not converted from a step pyramid. Access into this pyramid is free, though it does mean negotiating a very steep interior slope: well worth it for the views inside! From here you will be taken the short distance to see Snefru’s famous “Bent Pyramid”, so named due to the change in angle that was forced upon the builders due to the pyramid being built on soft sand, which caused it to start subsiding. At the end of this interesting day you will be driven back to your Cairo hotel. (B) Optional extras: In the evening: Giza Pyramids Sound and Light Show River Nile dinner cruise River Nile felucca trip Cairo Tower dinner and city views
